Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

Each time a significant honors show nears, you'll find a clamor for introducing of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and fill the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers function at the hard edge game development, producing among most fundamental forms of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
